Summer Skin Care Routine Tips

Congratulations! You have finally made it passed the cold winter showers and snow and are now ready to soak in the warmth and glory of summer. As fun-filled as the summer season is, it can take a toll on your skin. The extra hours in the sunlight, pollution, sweat, and other environmental stressors will lead to premature aging, age spots, sunburn, patchy skin, and open pores. Moreover, the humidity and temperature will lead to extra oil and shine. You need to invest in skin care products if you want happy, healthy skin all year round. Keep on reading to find out which summer skin care routine tips you need to follow.

Essential Summer Skin Care Routine Tips

Follow these summer skin care routine tips to achieve vibrant, summer-ready skin:

Cleanse Twice a Day

During the hot summer months, there is a lot of humidity that leads to excess oil production. Moreover, we all sweat a lot during the summer months. In certain parts of the world, you are still required to wear a protective mask. If that’s the case, your skin will not be happy. The oil and sweat will linger on your face for longer, leading to problems like acne, congested pores, etc.

You need to cleanse your skin twice a day to tackle the situation. It is best to use a cleanser that cleans your skin effectively without causing it to become over-dry. Finding the right cleanser can take a lot of time. You can either go to a dermatologist or select one yourself based on your skin type. Our favorite cleansers include:

Exfoliate with Glycolic Acid

The excess oil production will cause your skin to become dull over time if you don’t exfoliate regularly during the summer months. The options when it comes to skin exfoliation are endless. You can either opt for physical stuff or a chemical exfoliating serum. We recommend opting for a chemical-based exfoliating product that contains glycolic acid. Glycolic acid generally works for all skin types and helps revive the dull complexion.

Over time, you will also notice a significant improvement in your skin tone, reducing wrinkles and minimizing the dark spots. With that being said, wear sunscreen during the daytime if you use a glycolic acid-based product. You can use an exfoliator of your choice. Just do a patch test before applying the product all over your face.

Use a Water-Based Moisturizer

The moisturizer you use during the summer months shouldn’t be the one you use in the winter months. It will make your complexion dull, oily, and textured. You can use a water-based moisturizer instead. Selecting one with hyaluronic acid is an excellent choice for summer. Aim at moisturizing your skin twice a day. Our favorite moisturizers are:

Don’t Skip SPF

SPF needs to be a staple in your everyday routine during the summer months. Regardless of your skin type and concerns, this is one step that shouldn’t be missed. Apply it to all the exposed parts of your body and face for at least 15 minutes before stepping out in the sunlight. It would be best if you reapplied it every two to three hours. Make sure to wear a hat, scarf, and protective clothing. You can select any sunscreen of your choice. Our favorites include:

Mists and Essenes

Our skin can feel dull, dehydrated, and lethargic in the summer months. A good mist or an essence can offer you a fresh look and feel. Choose a refreshing mist or an essence and spray it on your face throughout the day as needed. L’EAUXYGENANTE is one of our personal favorites to use for the summer months. You can also choose rose water if you prefer something more natural. You can also find plenty of fruit-based mists for a better scent and feel.

Try Self-Tanning

We all want that glowing, sun-kissed look during the summer months. Soaking up the sun isn’t the healthiest way to achieve glowing skin. It can lead to premature wrinkling, pigmentation, and even skin cancer. Skincare experts don’t recommend tanning beds. Opt for self-tanning instead. You can use any one of your favorite skin tanners. Make sure to exfoliate your skin beforehand.

After applying the tanner, use your favorite moisturizer, primarily focusing on dry parts of your body. You might want to try different options before choosing the right one for you. Use a tanner that makes your skin a tone or two darker. Don’t try to go a gazillion shades darker otherwise, and you will end up with patchy and orange-looking skin. You can see plenty of before and after images on the internet.

Use a Nighttime Moisturizer

During the day, you won’t need a lot of moisture. However, it is essential to keep your skin well-nourished and hydrated at nighttime. You can use oil on your body. Mainly focus on your body’s dry parts, such as elbows, knees, and back. You can also use a rich moisturizer if you are not a fan of body oils. Take a shower, exfoliate your skin and then apply the oil. Wipe away the excess oil before slipping into the sheets, and you will have silky smooth skin as you wake up in the morning.
